How do I measure my ceiling height?
Once you identify where you want to install The Lift, measure from the top of the foundation and/or floor to the ceiling using a tape measure. This is the height you’ll use to select the proper size of channel for The Lift. The channel should mount directly to the wall with minimal gaps. You can mount directly over floor board trip as the track can easily accommodate that thickness.
What tools are needed for installation of The Lift?
A drill or a ratchet wrench is needed to install the 5/16in lag bolts into the wall. A 5/16in nut driver is included with The Lift. You will also need a stud finder, pencil and straight edge to mark the center location of the stud you plan to mount The Lift to.
Can I use an extension cord to plug in The Lift?
The Lift comes with a 18ft cable that allows you to reach a standard 120VAC outlet nearby. If a standard 120VAC outlet is not within 158ft of the mounting location, you may use an extension cord that has a ground, is at least #14 gauge, and is free of damage to the plug or cord. If an extension cord is used, Top Shelf Storage Solutions recommends securing the cord so it does not get entangled or damaged with the items being lifted.
What voltage is required by The Lift?
The Lift utilizes a standard 120VAC outlet and the motor pulls approximately 5 amps under normal load. A typical circuit in a house can handle 15 amps so it can easily handle the load.
Can I install The Lift by myself?
One person can easily assemble The Lift with the correct tools. We strongly recommend that two people work together to install The Lift.
How heavy is The Lift?
The Lift weighs approximately 60lbs when fully assembled. Much of the weight is at the top due to the motor and housing. Thus, it is strongly advised that two people work together to lift and mount The Lift to the wall.
Can I mount The Lift to a concrete wall?
Yes, you will need to use Tapcon 5/16in x 3in concrete anchors to mount the channel to the concrete in the same manner you would use the supplied wood screws to mount to a wood studded wall. It is critical that you use the correct size and brand of anchors as The Lift is designed to work with a 5/16in hex drive screw head. You can use both wood screws for where the channel touches drywall and concrete anchors where the channel touches concrete. Use the pre-drilled 5/16in holes that are in the center back of the channel and located every 12in along the channel.
How long does it take to install The Lift
A typical installation of The Lift will take less than 30 minutes once you have your space identified, cleared and a friend ready to help lift and secure the unit to the wall.
